I haven’t been posting much for more than a month because I went for my first teaching practice at SK ST Theresa Inobong, Penampang. The school was great! The headmistress and all the teachers and staff was very friendly and helpful. They make us feel like a part of the school.
There were only a class for every Year. It was a small school. I got 12 hours per week and the Year 2, 3, 5 and 6 class. I also entered Year 4. The only class I didn’t enter was Year 1.
I learned a lot from the school. It was totally different from the previous semester where we just went to schools for observations. It was the time we pour all of the things we learned, the theories, teaching method and classroom management.
We are not only there to teach but we also took charge of the extra co-curricular activity.
My friend and I took charge of Scout
We also involved in sports
We could not ask for a better school for our first practical.
Puan Justina Jipiu the headmistress of SK ST Theresa Inobong
We received a lot of gifts and cards on the last day. I also received a lot of hugs.
Feel like an artists when we leave the school. Where all the pupils surround the car.
We are also blessed to have two wonderful seniors with us for our first practical. They are very helpful and we are glad to have them with us.
I really wish it was more than a month. Hope we can go there again in the future
I see you all have a great Christmas celebration and Holiday. Few more days till the new year! How time flies!
Next year I will be in 5th Semester and starting my practical phase one for a month. I will be teaching for a whole month. Now that is something to look forward to I hope that everything went well.
I will have 4 more semester to finish my study. Two more years. To think that few years back I was just starting out and now I am here starting my career path as a teacher.
For semester 6th, I have to move out of my collage. So anyone who have any information about places to rent please don’t hesitate to inform me okay. Preferred somewhere near to Likas or IPG Kampus Gaya where I am studying. Rent fee hopefully not that expensive since our allowance is limited.
I been dying to curl my hair this year but due to health reason I cancel my intention. I will talk more about that health reason next year
Till then, Merry Christmas to those who are celebrating!
Last Sunday as I about to go out, there were two middle age men about 40-50 of age got out of a car and approach the rest room of our hostel. They were talking to Ibu (a security guard that is more like a mother to us here in the hostel). I heard they are asking Ibu to help them to take some pictures. As I am about to fill in my bottle with water at the water-cooler near the rest room, Ibu ask me to help them. I gladly left my bottle on the water cooler and took their camera.
” Ambil gambar kami dengan pokok bambu ini ar. Ambil dua kali ar. Pokok nie dah lama, sejak kami sini lagi” the uncle said. “Ambil gambar dengan hostel lg. Hostel nie dulu hostel lelaki. Di bawah sana hostel perempuan” He continue rambling. I smile to see these two uncle reminiscent their pass. They once studied here at IPG Kampus Gaya too but then it was called Maktab Gaya.
One of the men went behind the hostel. “Mana lagi kau mau pergi tu!” The other said. “Tengok-tengok“. The two men are from the peninsular. “Lepas habis belajar terus kerja sini, tidak balik-balik” One of them said smiling
They asked my names and my option. They asked me if so and so lecturer are still there. I heard some of their stories and had to leave because Nick had arrived. The two uncle said thank you.
As I took those pictures for them, there were this deep happy feeling inside of me. This place had brought so many memories to them.
Celebrated our Third year anniversary on Monday at KG Nelayan
I can’t stop thinking that we will leave this place too. It is our third year anniversary today and there will be 2 more to go before we bid farewell to this place and each other. We had a early celebration last Monday at Kg Nelayan. How time flies. The very first thing I will miss is these people! Crazy, Gorgeous and adorable bunch of people!
My second big family. We are not related by blood but God has put us together by heart. Happy Anniversary my beloved comrades. I love you all
Happy 3rd year Anniversary to all PISMP Semester 4 friends
It was the 21st of March, I remember it clearly like it was just yesterday…. Since when I write this way ^^” hahaha~ Well today since tomorrow we will summit our final assignments for LGA3102, Teaching Songs and Poems in a ESL Classroom, I want to share my first teaching experience with all of you. My fellow teacher/teacher trainee blogger friends, I sure you remember you first lesson. Maybe you don’t but I am sure you remember the feeling? Forgot? Just go along with me won’t you
This semester was the third School Based Experience that we went through and for this semester assignment is under our first minor subject that is Teaching Songs and Poems in a ESL Classroom. We are suppose to write out a lesson plan with all the teaching aids and ask a teacher to use our lesson plan to teach or teach it ourselves. Tell me which of the senior teacher don’t want free time, of course they will let us teach for ourselves. That is what happen with all of us except for one of my classmates, Candice, I don’t know how she manage to ask the teacher to teach on her behalf. But able to teach ourselves indeed is a great experience!
My first class was for year 2 students. At first I want to teach year 3 students thinking they are older and won’t give me much trouble but since my friend already choose year 3 and my lesson and topic are from the year 2 English Textbook, I just go with the flow and told the teacher that I would like to enter the year 2 class.
I was so nervous for the lesson, it is my first after all. What if the students don’t like me? What if my lesson if boring? What if? Because I don’t know what my student like, I ask the teacher to let me enter with her on one of her lesson and see how the student react. I did’t even say a word when I enter. Just to make an impression that you don’t want to mess with this teacher. I made a few adjustment afterwards with the lesson. Then I came to know the conversation the teacher and one of the student when he ask her, ‘ Teacher, Napa cikgu tu tidak cakap? Dia bisu ka?” I was like want to pengsan xD kids! hahaha
First few minutes of the class. Introduced them the different ambitions.
I purposely choose the period before recess. In my mind the students will be more alert and fresh in the early morning. The day before my class, I got another chance to enter the class to sit in because the teacher that suppose to enter have things to do. This time I talk to the students, I don’t want them to think I am bisu right! But still I was firm but I interact with all of them asking around and I even remind them to bring color pencil to class tomorrow because I will be teaching them.
Paying attention. Adorable >.<
Came the day of my class. The teacher that observe me, introduce me to the class and say that I will be teaching them today. I am really impress when the students said ” Tau dah cikgu!” They remember! I start the class by asking them what I asked them to bring to class and they all shout out “color pencil!”. It is a good start
Me, arranging my teaching aids while the students are doing their worksheet.
I went on my lesson. I was teaching “Ambition”. For my first lesson I think I did OK and the student are active and cooperative. The only thing is they keep asking questions in their mother tongue which and I was like…………. okay? Huh? OoooOO ^_^”
Ambition cards! Where I ask them to do with the phrase ” My name is______, when I grow up I want to be a _________”
All of them finish their cards! Even decorated it.
All in all it was a wonderful experience teaching in rural area. The students are wonderful and very innocent. We, the teacher trainee became the artist there for a week and the last day, students were coming in the Bilik Akses, where we were placed, and kissing our hands and saying good byes (99% of the students are Malay). There are also student that hug me, I am not sure with the other tho. If you ask me, I don’t mind teaching in that school again
